Overview

The Moerqili clan is a Manchu surname recorded in Volume 60 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, an official compilation of the Qianlong reign. They resided in Gaha. Dunduo of the Plain Red Banner submitted to the Qing dynasty at its beginning. His son, Aningtai, served as a Wing Commander; his grandson, Decheng'e, served as a Clerk; and his great-grandsons, Fuka and Shele, served as Vanguard Guards.

The Wing Commander was a title related to military and garrison management within the wing-based organization, with specific responsibilities depending on the organization. The Vanguard Guard Commander oversaw the subordinate guards, and the Vanguard Guards were associated with vanguard military and security duties. The Clerk was a transliteration of the Manchu word *bithesi*, handling copying, translation, and official documents; these roles cannot all be considered the same military position.

The positions mentioned in this passage extend from sons to great-grandsons, indicating differences in the areas of service held by family members. These are not the four positions held by Dunduo and himself in succession. The original text does not explicitly state Aningtai's Wing Commander position, nor does it provide a complete father-son relationship between Fuka and Shele, making it impossible to directly supplement the information about each father through generational ranking. The location of Gaha, the Manchu names of each person, the specific institutions and terms of office are still pending verification. Surnames and other clans starting with "Mor" will not be merged based on similar pronunciation.
