Overview
The Dürle clan is a Manchu surname listed in Volume 60 of the official genealogy of the Eight Banners Manchu clans compiled during the Qianlong reign. Their ancestral home was Kulumutu Village, Heilongjiang Province. When Zhe'erde of the Plain Red Banner first submitted to the Qing dynasty, his great-grandson Polian served as a clerk, and his great-great-grandsons Saning'a and Samuha served as scribes. The genealogy retains village names beyond the broader Heilongjiang region, providing important clues for identifying the clan's ancestral home.
The clerk was a civil official in government departments, handling related administrative affairs and documents. The scribe, derived from the Manchu word "bithesi," refers to an official responsible for copying and translating documents. Both positions involved administrative paperwork, but their duties and ranks are not directly equated. A scribe was not simply a calligrapher or a copyist without official rank.
Polian was a great-grandson, and Saning'a and Samuha were great-great-grandsons; their official titles cannot be directly transferred to Zhe'erde's own resume. The original text does not list the specific government offices where each person served, and it cannot be assumed that the three people served in the same government office simply because they belong to the same family, nor can their positions be considered hereditary. The historical status of Kurumutu Village, its Manchu surname, complete father-son relationships, and individual tenures still need to be verified, and it cannot be directly replaced by any homonymous village in modern Heilongjiang Province.
