Overview

Shen Duo is a figure under the Shen clan entry in Volume 78 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, recorded as a bondservant of the Plain Yellow Banner, whose family had lived in Shenyang for generations. The genealogy does not list Shen Duo's official positions or birth and death dates, but rather preserves information on the official positions held by his descendants over several generations; the phrase "year of surrender unknown" indicates that a specific year of surrender could not be added for him.

The original book records more specific appointments starting with his great-great-grandson, Binggong, stating that Binggong once served as the Henan Military Commissioner; his fourth-generation descendant, Shen Yu, served as a Reader-in-Waiting of the Inner Cabinet and concurrently as a zuoling (military officer) at the time of compilation. His fifth-generation descendant, Su Bo, served as a Langzhong (official) and concurrently as a zuoling; his sixth-generation descendants, Chang Dai, Ya Erdai, and Cha Erdai, served as Third-Class Imperial Guards; Zhuo Erdai served as an Assistant Director and concurrently as a zuoling; and Qi Cheng'e served as a Clerk. His seventh-generation descendants, Yonghe, Yongzhong, and Yong'an, served as Clerks.

This record shows the multi-generational service of the Shen family in the cabinet, ministries, and the Eight Banners' military and guard systems, but it does not explain whether the official positions were inherited from one another. When studying Shen Duo, his own banner affiliation and the official positions of his descendants should be presented separately, and the official careers of Binggong or Shen Yu should not be attributed to Shen Duo himself.
