Overview
In Volume 79 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, under the section on the Tainikan surnames within the Manchu Banners, the Lu family is recorded under the lineage of Yingkui. Yingkui was a member of the Bordered White Banner, residing in Shoushan, with the year of his submission unknown. His grandson, Luo Heli, served as a cavalry officer; Bage served as an infantry officer; his great-grandson, Changshi, served as a guard officer when the genealogy was compiled; and Su Bohe held an eighth-rank official position. Two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren are listed separately.
The cavalry officer, infantry officer, and guard officer belonged to different military organizations. The cavalry officer managed lower-ranking soldiers and participated in their training; the infantry system's important tasks included city gate guarding, patrolling, and maintaining order; and the guard officer's duties were related to night watch and protection. These three titles do not represent the order of appointment for the same position.
Su Bohe's eighth-rank position only indicates his rank; the original entry did not provide his specific title. Yingkui's affiliation with the Bordered White Banner and his ancestral home in Shoushan are also different types of information; one cannot infer an ancestor's military command from the grandchildren's military positions. This section confirms the family classification based on the Lu family's title and retains Yingkui's original name; the modern corresponding location of Shoushan, the specific positions of each person, and the pending verification of their positions. Common ancestors or cross-surname relatives not recorded in the original genealogy are not added here.
