Clan and Banner Background

The Yitemo clan is recorded in volume 42 of the Comprehensive Genealogy of Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners, which groups branches around Yehe and other regions. Yitemo is the name used in that genealogy and should not be silently substituted with another Manchu surname based on approximate Chinese sound, nor assigned an invented etymology.

Family Service and Distinctions

Within the Yehe branches, Muketu belonged to the Plain Blue Banner; Ahada, Santan, and Aita to the Plain Red Banner; Benku to the Bordered White Banner; and Abika to the Plain Blue Banner. Another line associated with Niyaman was registered in the Plain White Banner, and Batu hu of Hada in the Bordered Blue Banner. Surname, ancestral location, and banner membership supply distinct information. Clan members did not all belong to one banner or reside in one settlement.

Kinship, Succession, and Evidence

Descendants of Muketu received hereditary military rewards; Ahada's descendants entered ministry service; and Batu hu's relatives held directorships and roles announcing or guiding ritual proceedings. A qidu wei title was hereditary; a ministry director was an actual office, and ceremonial announcers had specific ritual duties. The original genealogy groups descendants beneath ancestors, not as additional posts held by those ancestors. Clan spelling, relations between branches, and exact village locations require verification.
