Overview
Unuhuqi: Unuhuqi is a member of the Bilai clan in Volume 58 of the *General Genealogy of Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*. He belonged to the Plain Yellow Banner, and his family had long resided in Heyou. He served as a military officer and was listed as one of those who surrendered at the beginning of the dynasty. The position of military officer here is indeed his own and should not be confused with the positions held by other members of the same clan, such as Changshou, and their descendants.
The original book lists Bilai as a Manchu surname, and the clan's general residence included Heyou and Changbai Mountain. Unuhuqi's branch points to Heyou, but the modern place name correspondence still needs verification; one cannot simply assume Heyou is a village within Changbai Mountain based solely on the clan's general description. The Plain Yellow Banner was an organizational unit within the Eight Banners, distinct from clan and original residence.
The military officer was a low-ranking official in the military guard organization, involved in troop management, training, and the guard duty system. The official records list the commanders, deputy commanders, and military officers of the military guard battalion separately; the military officer was not the highest-ranking commander of the entire military guard battalion. The original text does not specify Unuhuqi's battalion, garrison location, term of office, or relatives, so it cannot write Heyou's posting location, nor can it supplement his military achievements. The early text only provides the time frame of submission, which does not equate to the precise year of submission or appointment.
